KC GROUP SHIPPING SHORTLISTED FOR THE GLASGOW BUSINESS AWARDS 2018
Many elements combine to deliver business value; structure, processes and people and the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has recognised these qualities within KC Group Shipping and shortlisted the company for the Glasgow Business Awards 2018. The nomination is within the International Trade category.
The Awards celebrate their 21st anniversary this year, and the International Trade Award focuses on companies which demonstrate success in exporting and are committed to continued growth within international trade.
KC Group’s nomination and recognition is further evidence of the continued success enjoyed since formation in 1987. The award nomination committee has seen excellence in an end to end, fully integrated consignment management when nominating KC Group Shipping.
Discussing the Award, Dale Minks, KC Group Shipping Systems and Process Manager said, “Our approach to customer solutions has been the backbone of our success to date. We get to know our customers, their products and needs and become an integral part of their business. We have three divisions to our company, which all deliver bespoke, dedicated services for our customers. These are:
- KC Forwarding – for general shipping and forwarding
- KC Liner - for representation of shipping lines and KC’s liner brand and
- KYFI - specialising in imports of barrels for maturing whisky and imports of Bourbon whiskey
The fact we are HMRC AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) accredited adds further value to clients. Our European operations continue to grow, and we see healthy enquiries due to our AEO status.”
Dale continued, “KC Group’s turnover between 2015/16 and 2018/19 is projected to more than double, with profitability between the same period expected to treble. Many factors including our ability to provide solutions to niche markets like the bourbon and whisky industry, automotive, relief aid and specialist foods including transportation of Brazil Nuts between Bolivia and the UK have all contributed.
These are some examples of the industries and products that contribute to our business growth, but the main factors in our success are our people and processes. We are rich with experienced, knowledgeable and passionate individuals, who have helped shape how we work. This award nomination is certainly a recognition of their dedication and ‘Can Do’ attitude.”
The awards ceremony takes place on October 4th 2018 at The Hilton Hotel, Glasgow. With categories including The Entrepreneur of the Year Award, The Glasgow Business Award for Family Business of the Year and The Royal Bank of Scotland Award for Most Outstanding Business, as well as our category, International Trade, it is sure to bring together many of Glasgow’s leading business community.
Speaking about the nomination and awards, KC Group Shipping Managing Director David Milne said, “We are an international partner to many organisations and industries across the globe, though Glasgow is home. It’s where we were formed, it’s our roots, and although our offices extend to other areas of the world, Glasgow set us on our way. It’s nice to receive recognition from your hometown, but it’s only been possible by how we operate here and across the globe.”
The various third-party shipping line representations KC Group Shipping has within Glasgow, Scotland is also a critical factor in business growth and customer relationships. These include Yang Ming Shipping (Taiwan) and Geest Line (UK) amongst others. Continual development of product suitability for international markets borne out by provision of high quality integrated logistics service and a bespoke service level agreement with key accounts is delivering strong customer retention, as well as building new relationships.
Something that is not lost on David Milne, “We cultivate personal relationships. Our people know our customers, and their products but have also been developed to ensure the right fit when it comes to collaboration with partners and suppliers for our customers. Our regular training programmes are adding personal development to our people, and at the end of the day, our customers benefit greatly from this. We’re an agile, modern and forward-thinking business that will continue to go from strength to strength with the right people and processes.”
